What is REACH?

The EU REACH regulation (i.e., EU Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006) is a regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorization, and restriction of chemicals, which came into force on June 1, 2007. The EU REACH regulation classifies products into three categories: "substances", "mixtures", and "articles", affecting almost all products placed on the EU market.

Paragraph 1 of Article 67 of the EU REACH regulation stipulates: "When a substance, mixture, or article contains restricted substances listed in Annex XVII, it shall not be placed on the market if it does not meet the restriction requirements." This regulation indicates that manufacturers or importers are not allowed to include restricted substances in Annex XVII of the REACH regulation in the products placed on the EU market. It is a safety net established by the EU to protect the EU's environment and the health of its citizens. Enterprises must ensure that the products sold in the EU do not contain relevant restricted substances. Therefore, enterprises should not only pay attention to SVHC but also the presence of various restricted substances listed in Annex XVII of the regulation in their corresponding products.

Do I need to test all the substances in the REACH Annex XVII list?

Different product categories need to meet different Annex XVII items. For example, Article 5's requirement for benzene restricts substances, preparations, and children's products; another example is Article 64's requirement for 1,4 - dichlorobenzene, which restricts air fresheners / deodorants. Enterprises should screen the items related to their products and develop corresponding measures to meet regulatory requirements.

What is the testing cycle for RTS Annex XVII?

Since product categories vary and the testing items are different, the testing cycle depends on the actual testing items. There is no fixed regular testing cycle. Please consult the RTS online customer service for details.

How long does RTS keep the samples?

The sample retention period for ordinary samples is 30 days; for liquid (such as paint, ink, glue, paste) and powder samples, the retention period is 1 week after the report is issued, and they will be destroyed after the expiration date.
