Food Contact Material (abbreviated as "FCM") refers to a material that will come into contact with food under normal or foreseeable use. Products with some or all of the components are food contact materials, which can be referred to as food contact products, such as electric kettles, coffee machines, rice cookers, soup spoons, food packaging bags, etc.

In the process of contact with food, food contact materials may affect the smell, taste and color of food, and may release a certain amount of toxic and harmful components, such as heavy metals, additives, and polymer monomers, which will migrate into food and then be ingested by the human body, directly endangering human health. As a result, food contact materials need to meet higher safety standards than general products.

As food contact materials are related to food safety, the world's major markets, including the European Union, China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and other countries and regions, have made mandatory provisions on the health and safety of food contact materials. In particular, it is important to note that the specific requirements of different markets vary greatly, and some are not even comparable. As a result, food contact products entering different markets need to be assessed for compliance with the specific requirements of each market.
