EN62471 & EN60825 for Luminous Toys in the European Union

IEC / EN62471 is the test standard for laser products (including LEDs) issued by the European Union. It is applicable to all lamps and lamp systems, including LEDs, incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, gas discharge lamps, arc lamps and other lamps and lamps, to evaluate the relevant optical radiation hazards of different lamps and lamp systems.

  • Service Background

  • Service Items

    I. Applicable products:

    All lamps and lamp systems except lasers:
    Lasers with a single wavelength are easy to test. Ordinary lamps may be a wide-wavelength band light source due to the influence of the light-emitting body, diffuser, lens, auxiliary optical components and other devices.

    II. Tested wavelength range:

    Optical radiation with a wavelength in the range of 200nm to 3000nm

    III. Test parameters and objects:

    Test parameters:
    (1) Irradiance (radiant flux divided by the unit area, unit: W·m-2)
    (2) Radiance (irradiance divided by the field of view, which can be converted from irradiance) Test objects
    (3) Ultraviolet hazards to the skin and eyes
    (4) Near-ultraviolet hazards to the eyes (315nm-400nm)
    (5) Retinal blue light hazard
    (6) Retinal blue light hazard (small light source)
    (7) Retinal thermal hazard
    (8) Retinal thermal hazard (for weak visual stimuli) (780nm-1400nm)
    (9) Infrared radiation hazard to the eyes (780nm-3000nm)
    (10) Skin thermal hazard (380nm-3000nm)

    IV. Judgment of results:
    (11)Continuous lamps: No danger; Class 1 danger (low risk); Class 2 danger (medium risk); Class 3 danger (high risk)
    (12)Pulsed lamps:
    • 1) Those exceeding the radiation limit are classified as Class 3 danger;
    • 2) Single-pulse lamps not exceeding the radiation limit are classified as no danger;
    • 3) Multi-pulse lamps not exceeding the radiation limit are classified according to the classification method of continuous lamps.
    • 4) Currently, some low-priced EN62471 reports on the market still use the template of the EN60825 standard: they directly update the standard to EN62471, but do not update the actual content of the standard. Relevant enterprises are advised to be cautious.
